Brakes
Originally I upgraded the brakes to larger discs front and rear with the original callipers (as described below), since then I have upgraded the fronts to much larger discs and 6 pot alloy callipers

| These brakes were also supplied by Hi Spec Motorsport, they are 335*32mm grooved discs and Hi Spec's own 6 Pot All Alloy Callipers. These have awesome stopping power and have not come anywhere near fading yet, I upgraded from the original callipers and larger discs as I was having problems with distortion and vibration with the originals. | |

The original brakes on the legacy are 2 pot calipers with 276 by 24 mm vented discs at the front and 250mm rear vented discs with internal drums for the handbrake. I found these to be totally inadequate for a car of this weight and performance - not only did the warp fairly quickly but would only last 2 or 3 corners if you were in a hurry. The discs warped so badly that I decided an upgrade for the front was in order and decided to visit Hi Spec Motorsport in Dartford.

The original plan was just to increase the size of the discs - but on seeing some of the brake systems laying around at Hi Spec I decided to go for 335*32mm discs with Wilwood calipers (£750+vat) this was duly installed (pictures to follow) and then we put the wheels back on - PROBLEM - the spokes are too deep and the calipers would not fit so everything had to come back off. Back to plan A, larger discs 315*28mm installed with the original calipers, these discs are 39mm larger in diameter than the standard discs giving greater leverage and therefore greater stopping power, they are also 4mm thicker (doesn't sound like much but looks much thicker) this means they have a much greater heat capacity.(£400+VAT and fitting) Installing
Results The brakes respond far more positively - I am now confident that the car is going to stop, and have not faded yet and they feel far more powerful - I've yet to test them properly but I'm very happy with them at the moment. | ![]() |
| The EBC green pads only lasted 7000 miles, and on a trip back from Liverpool, via Bristol they wore out completely and I was unable to replace them, this ruined the discs, causing vibrations so the disc were swapped for identical discs but with 8 grooves. | ![]() |

| I have also now replaced the rear discs, these have changed from 256*18 mm to 312*20 mm, and also have 8 grooves. The calipers and pads are much smaller than the fronts so keep the braking balance | ![]() |
